Marketing Wisdom from Frank Kern

April 20, 2008 · Filed Under Conversion, Marketing Seminars, Traffic & Conversion · 13 Comments

I'm at Frank Kern's Mass Control event (Sunday, 4/20/08) , and just heard Frank talk…but first, I have a confession.

I've learned from a lot of very smart people. Perry Marshall, Rich Schefren, Alex Mandossian, Jim Edwards, Jeff Walker, Armand Morin, Kevin Nations, Joel Comm, David Garfinkel, John Carlton, Eben Pagan…..

I could go on for a long time.

But I don't know Frank Kern.

I've heard people talk about him for years. But….and here's my confession…I've never met him, never read a word of his material, and have only seen his picture a few times. Sounds strange, but it's true.

Okay so back to today…and YOU….

I'm in the room here with Frank, and he just finished talking.

WOW.

So much wisdom, such good information, so important…and so understandable for everyone.

So I wanted to take a minute to share with you what he just said, because I think…actually I know…it will help you.

(No cameras or recording is allowed here…this is straight from my notes. I don't *think* I can get in trouble sharing this with you.)

I've spoken before about why people buy. Frank just talked about…

WHY PEOPLE DON'T BUY

Here are three reasons.

Big Seminar, People, and a $500 Discount

My business really took off in 2005.

*Everything* changed for me.

And as I think for a moment about what started that big change for me, it comes down to just one thing.

Relationships.

It's an interesting paradox.

The Internet is supposed to be this big global, impersonal, disconnected network of computers and equipment. But what the successful people seldom ever mention (and the unsuccessful ones just don't know) is that the heart of the Internet isn't the electronics at all.

It's the people.

And it's the relationships you create with those people, the trust you create, the help you offer, and the team you build around you that really drives business on the web.

So what happened in 2005 that changed everything for me? Read more

Affiliate Summit 2007 — Small businesses vs Large businesses

Today I'm in Las Vegas and at 2pm I'll be speaking at the Affiliate Summit, the world's largest meeting of affiliate marketing and merchant marketers. I'll be talking about. . . well, Landing
Pages.

In doing some research from my talk, I did discover one thing. We "smaller" marketers — and by "small" I mean that we're not Amazon or Payless — we tend to pay closer attention to the money we spend on marketing, the return we get from that.  Don't fool yourself into thinking that large companies do a better job of marketing, because they don't.

Big Seminars and Little Seminars

November 2, 2006 · Filed Under Marketing Seminars · 3 Comments

I just returned from Big Seminar in Atlanta and it was filled with goldmines of info. Not only were the speakers terrific, many of the attendees were gold nuggets, too. . . if you could find them.

The thrill for me was that lots of people came to seek me out, too.

Hint: If you ever want to get on the good side of someone whose product you own, pull them aside and tell them what an impact they made in your life, business and overall success. Several people did that for me over the weekend, and that was a real thrill.

And I had a chance to do the same with some of my own mentors there, too.

Internet Marketing Conference Irony

September 17, 2006 · Filed Under Marketing Seminars · Comment

From the podium of the World Internet Summit this morning I spoke about a number of things, but probably the most significant was something that wasn't even planned, and sounds ironic on its face.

We've had a parade of impressive speakers here, including Rick Raddatz, Dave Taylor, Marc Harty, Rich Schefren and a half dozen others. And there are about 150 attendees — people like you.

And so what did I say to them that was so unbelievable? It's this.
